Top Premier League Scorers Of All Time

6th October 2022

With several Premier League matches currently underway, it’s an exciting time for football fans everywhere. Football is one of the most watched in the world. In fact, sports streaming trends in the UK suggest that football is far ahead of other sports like golf, rugby, and even cricket in terms of streaming popularity.

The Premier League has been around for almost 31 years now, it’s gained worldwide popularity through its competitiveness and unpredictability – look no further than Leicester City’s premier league charge! The beautiful game is home to some of the best minds of football, but at the end of the day, it’s about who can put the ball in the back of the net. Let’s take a look at some of the top Premier League scores of all time:

1.   Alan Shearer

Scores: 260

Clubs: Southampton, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle

According to player stats from the Premier League, Alan Shearer is the only player with 260 goals scored. The English player has played for multiple clubs but won the Premier League with Blackburn during the 1994 and 1995 seasons.

After 10 years at Newcastle United, Shearer retired and became a pundit and match analyst for BBC’s Match of the Day. In 2021, Shearer was inducted into the Premier League’s Hall of Fame.

2.   Wayne Rooney

Scores: 208

Clubs: Manchester United, Everton, D.C. United, Derby County

Rooney is Manchester United’s top scorer. Of his 559 appearances for the club, Rooney scored 253 times. His 208 goals while in the Premier League make him the second top scorer of all time on this list.

While he’s no longer actively playing, Rooney continues to contribute to the football community by coaching and managing. Currently, he’s the manager for D.C. United, an American-based football team.

3.   Harry Kane

Scores: 190

Club: Tottenham Hotspurs

29-year-old Harry Kane is the only footballer on this list that’s actively playing. Kane is currently the second top scorer for the Tottenham Hotspurs and the third top scorer in the Premier League. Kane started his career at Spurs’ youth team before moving up the ranks and being promoted to the senior team at 16.

Besides representing Spurs, Kane is also the captain of the English national team. He’s become a talisman for both club and country, which has caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

4.   Andrew Cole

Scores: 187

Clubs: Arsenal, Fulham, Bristol City, Newcastle United, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Manchester City, Portsmouth, Birmingham City, Sunderland, Burnley, Nottingham Forest

Perhaps the most decorated player on this list, Cole is the fourth highest scorer in the Premier League and has won almost all possible types of football accolades in the UK. He was also capped 15 times for the English national team.

Following his retirement, Cole was hired by Manchester United to coach the club’s forwards and has also coached Huddersfield Town’s forwards.

5.   Sergio Agüero

Scores: 184

Clubs: Independiente, Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona FC

The only Argentinian on the list, Agüero is Manchester City’s all-time top goalscorer and holds the record currently for the most Premier League hat-tricks. He’s also rounding up the top five list of Premier League scorers of all time.

Unfortunately, Agüero’s career in football ended in December 2021 following a cardiac arrhythmia in his last match. It’s a sad and premature ending to an illustrious career that has seen Aguero reach some of the tallest heights of the professional game.

While it might be challenging to beat the records set by these talented players, it will be exciting to see new football players come into the fold and attempt to make and break records of their own.
