Football fans will have the chance to meet acclaimed Southport author John Keith at a special event at Birkdale Library next month.
The ‘Meet The Authors’ showcase will take place on Wednesday 8 July, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, at Birkdale Library, Station Master’s House, and will give visitors the opportunity to meet a range of local writers, chat about their work and buy books in an informal setting.
Among those appearing will be prolific author and long time football journalist John Keith, whose recently published his first fiction novel, The Shankly Conspiracy, is expected to be a particular draw for football literature fans.
Known for his extensive catalogue of factual football books, the Southport based writer has finally turned his hand to fiction with a story that blends football, politics and intrigue, placing legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly at the centre of a dramatic plot involving a Greek campaign for the return of the Elgin Marbles.
Visitors will be able to meet John, discuss the inspiration behind the novel, and hear more about how he moved from writing football history into football-inspired fiction.
The event is being hosted in partnership with Waterstones Southport and will feature a relaxed drop-in format, with authors based in different areas of the library.
Guests will be able to speak to writers about their books, enjoy a glass of wine and browse titles available to buy on the evening.
Other authors attending include S M Bretherton, Emily Fairfax, Richard Moore, James Parker and Nicola Robson.
Tickets are priced at £2.50 and will be available to purchase from Birkdale Library.
