Support Helen in Southport’s Strictly Ballroom Event

Support Helen Law who is taking part in this years charity fundraising event – Strictly Ballroom 2016.

Helen told OTSNews.co.uk some of you may be aware I have been selected to be a contestant in the Strictly Ballroom Event which will be held on the 10th September 2016 in Southport.

In the months leading up to this, everyone else and I will be paired with a professional dancer then will have only 10 hours of concentrated teaching and guidance. All the contestants involved will have had little to no previous dance experience, so this is a real challenge for us all. I can guarantee there will be tears, laughter and nerves along the journey, but knowing I have been chosen to do this will be something to remember for the rest of my life and will make my Dad proud, intending to beat by far my sponsorship target for such an incredible charity.

Hundreds of people sent in applications to want to participate in this event, but along with 9 other competitors who also sent in their reasons for wanting to take part, I was chosen due to my own personal story in which explained how this devastating disease has impacted on my life due to it taking my Dad at age 58, George Barr, and depriving my children of their Grandad at such a young age. More recently, my son in laws father also passed away, aged 53, of the same deadly disease leaving children and grandchildren at an age which is far too young to leave all this behind.Furthermore, my husbands grand father past away due to having lung Cancer.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer. They offer help and hope to those affected by lung cancer. They fund research in to the early detection of the disease and campaign for better outcomes for lung cancer patients. For more information on what this charity does, go to www.roycastle.org or http://www.roycastle.org/strictlyballroom to find out more about the Strictly Ballroom Event 2016.

As you can see from this and the effect it has had on my family, I feel passionate about this charity. Raising money for awareness and research will benefit thousands of people along with their families in the future and hopefully one day I pray, a cure will be found which will prevent the heartache that my own family and lots of others have had to experience and go through.

Please give generously as much or as little as you can, every small amount counts and is very much appreciated. I would love to see as many people on the night to help support me and I hope to do everyone proud as we all know its not about the winning, its the taking part that means everything.
