Southport salon reigns supreme as Retail Salon of the Year at national business awards

The Company of Master Barbers has been named Retail Salon of the Year, sponsored by TIGI, for the second year running at the British Hairdressing Business Awards, hosted by Hairdressers Journal International.

The ceremony, which took place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London on Monday 11 September, was hosted by comedian Rob Beckett, alongside HJ’s executive director, Jayne Lewis-Orr.

On the night, Jayne welcomed the assembled audience of 800 hairdressers, telling them: “This night is all about promoting the professionalism, innovation and excellence of our industry. We’re proud to recognise the individuals and teams who work tirelessly to raise the profile and professionalism of this industry, and make it one of which we can all be proud.”

The awards, which boast 17 categories recognising all aspects of salon life, seek to find the most forward-thinking, successful and valued businesses in the country. A win on the night marks a salon out as the cream of the crop, providing unrivalled recognition that they are at the pinnacle of their profession and contributing to both the industry and the economy in a truly meaningful way.

The Retail Salon of the Year category seeks to recognise salons that have a strategic and seamless approach to retail – considering it a critical part of the professional salon service, rather than a hard sell.

Says Jayne: “This category is all about celebrating salons with a solid retail strategy in place. So often salons neglect retail, or think sales is a dirty word, but personalised product recommendations are the final step in customer service and are as crucial as every other part of the client experience. A well-deserved second win for The Company of Master Barbers who continue to set the retailing bar extremely high for salons across the UK.”

Accepting their award, salon owner Robert Rix commented: “We’re so proud to win this award! We would put our success down to a lot of handwork and our amazing team, we couldn’t do it without them! Retail is the cornerstone of our business and it’s so important to understand the business side of the industry.”

Today marks a great news day for The Company of Master Barber’s standing tall over a vast industry of 277,333 professional UK hairdressers who work in just 35,000 hairdressing salons*. This win catapults the salon into the hairdressing elite – a proud day for Southport local businesses!
