Southport resident complains about debris in the Marine Lake

Nick Green contacted OTSNews.co.uk to voice his dismay at the ‘debris’ in the Marine Lake.

Nick 37 has  golden memories of boating with his mum and dad on the man-made lake in the 1980’s, but fears Southport families and tourists will now be put off by the smell.

Nick, said: “I would not take my young family out onto Marine Lake in a boat because of the filthy water.

“Splashing around in the water is part of the fun when you take a boat out, but it is not nice when the water is a health hazard.

“We need to protect the town’s tourist trade.”

A spokesman for Sefton Council said: “Littering is illegal and something that none of us should tolerate.

“Any floating rubbish in the Marine Lake is cleared away on a regular basis and we are presently working with the lake concessionaire, who is responsible for the operation of it, to ensure that a suitable and effective cleaning regime is in place.

“Clearing up litter can be very costly.”
