Southport paramedics risk their lives as assault cases spiral

Assaults on ambulance staff in Southport are going unreported due to cuts in police budgets, claims a paramedic who was attacked in Southport.

The startling admission was made in a victim impact statement by an ambulance worker who was assaulted by Marcin Wysockie, 30, of Birch Street.

Wysockie pleaded guilty to assault at Sefton Magistrates Court on August 8.

The court heard that the ambulance worker had been trying to put Wysockie in a wheelchair which a colleague had provided when he grabbed the back of her leg and squeezed so hard that she was left with bruising. He also attempted to bite her.

In a victim impact statement, the para- medic said that she had worked for the NHS for over 20 years, and loves her job.

She had lost count of the number of lives she had helped save, she said, but staff were being assaulted on occasions that were not always reported to police.
