A Southport high school has been praised by parents as they get ready to launch a brand new initiative to reduce the amount of time pupils are on their phones.
Meols Cop High will welcome students back this coming September with new mobile phone picked that require students to ‘lock’ their phones into bags at the start of the school day.
The bag is expected to be locked for the entirety of the school day, allowing children to focus better and foster a stronger education system without smart phone distraction.
An emergency override system is in place whereby students who need to access their phones for specific reasons can do so with the approval of a teacher.
As well as increasing focus teachers say they hope it will also encourage pupils to spend more time talking with each other and making more personal connections with peers.
The scheme has been created with parent and pupil input, with some existing students pushing for the bags to be implemented to help them.
