Southport GPs forced to cancel flu jabs after ‘lorry shortage’

15th September 2021

Hundreds of patients across Southport set to get their first flu jabs of the year this coming weekend have been told they now face major delays.

Doctors across Southport are feeling the effects of what they say is a national shortage of lorry drivers and a crippled supply chain, meaning they have been forced to cancel pre arranged flu jab clinics.

This now means vulnerable patients with serious lung and chest issues, as well as the elderly, will be forced to wait even longer before they get their vital flu jabs.

Town Centre surgery St Mark’s Medical centre was one of a number of practices breaking the bad news to patients this week.

A message to patients said “Due to a national shortage of HGV drivers, our vaccine supplier is unable to meet the delivery date for our walk-in flu clinics this weekend and so we are left with no choice but to postpone this until further notice.

“Once we have a confirmation from the supplier, we will let you all know of the new dates. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Best wishes,
St. Mark’s Medical Centre
