Club statement on the interest from Phil Hodgkinson takeover bid.

Southport Football Club notes the media and online speculation regarding Mr Phil Hodgkinson’s attempt to gain a controlling interest in Pinewise Limited, trading as Southport Football Club, and wish to clarify the following:

– Mr Phil Hodgkinson has stated that he has made an offer for the club. For the record the current Directors of the club would like to confirm that, up to the time of this statement’s publication, they have not received a valid offer from Mr Hodgkinson which could have been accepted.

– The Club did receive a brief one-page letter over a week ago detailing Phil Hodgkinsons interest, which had conditions attached. These conditions related to certain personnel activity which could not be met as irreversible steps had already been taken in that regard.

– Earlier this week the Directors proactively approached Mr Hodgkinson and offered to discuss, in confidence, his proposals without obligation.

– The Directors offer to discuss contained two reasonable conditions surrounding the meeting held last night and social media activity. Mr Hodgkinson did not wish to comply with these two conditions, as is his prerogative. However, we believe the conditions could have and should have been met for discussions to move forward in a confidential, positive and robust manner.

Southport Football Club acts appropriately, professionally and responsibly in all its dealings with partners, investors and personnel.

Furthermore, we are again placing on record our invitation for genuine offers of investment from all parties and look forward to discussing opportunities with those parties. At this time we are in discussions with more than one potential major investor and will update supporters as these discussions progress.
