SOUTHPORT Drink Driver Avoids Jail Sentence

A WOMAN caught drink driving nearly four times over the legal limit has avoided a custodial sen- tence after a court heard she was worried about upcoming medical results.

As the 48-year-old appeared at Sefton Magistrates Court on May 9, it was heard that a member of the public had contacted police after seeing her get out of a Jaguar S-type car on Upper Aughton Road and appear to be under the influence of alcohol.

When police arrived, she had already got back in her car and drove off in front of the officer.

As he followed her she narrowly avoided colliding with several parked vehicles before she was pulled over on Kent Road.

Prosecutor Andrew Page said: “She staggered, nearly falling over, and used her vehicle to keep herself upright. She smelt of alcohol, her eyes were glazed and bloodshot.”

Subsequent breath tests showed she was driving with 139 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg/100ml.
