Families affected by cancer invited to support session

Sefton residents whose lives have been affected by cancer are being invited to a special event at Aintree Hospital later this month.

The Health and Wellbeing Event will be held in the hospital’s Clinical Sciences Building between 10am and 2pm on Friday November 24.

The free event is aimed at people who have been diagnosed with cancer, and those who are supporting a family member or friend with the condition.

It is being organised as a joint venture by the hospital, Sefton CVS, Macmillan Cancer Support and South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group.

Visitors on the day are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome, refreshments and the opportunity to visit and access help from a wide range of information stalls including cancer nurse specialists, Macmillan Community Navigators and local support groups.

There will also be a healthy eating demonstration, and the chance to try chair-based exercises and yoga workshops.

And Aintree Hospital Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dominic Bray, will lead a session on how to manage the anxiety that is caused as a result of ‘living with uncertainty’.

Dr Clare Byrne, the hospital’s Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse, commented: “This event is all about helping people to adjust and live with – and beyond – their cancer.

“It will provide a wealth of information on the many sources of advice and support they can access in our area.”

Dominic Bray added: “There’s nothing more beneficial than meeting, talking to and swapping ideas with people who are in the same situation as you are.

“That’s why our message to anyone affected by cancer is come along and give this event a try – what have you got to lose?”
