Silenced gulls lead to calls for permanent Southport hawk

23rd July 2017

Seagulls have been easily silenced for the Open using a Harris hawk.

The silent but deadly predator has been so successful,
Birkdale residents have cheekily asked falconer Luke Summers and his trained birds – Harris Hawk Gin, peregrine falcon Jet – to stay around permanently to combat the incessant noise and terror that comes with the pest that is the thousand of gulls that swoop across Southport each

The practice will also be welcomed among animal rights activists as the hawks act as a deterrent and haven't killed any seagulls during the last five days of the tournament
