Shoreline Food Bank given the Lord Mayor’s ‘Citizens 4 Good’ commendation

Julie Woods, who runs the Shoreline Food Bank was given the Lord Mayor’s ‘Citizens 4 Good’ commendation at a ceremony at Bootle Town Hall by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Dave Robinson for the support she provides to the local com munity.

She founded the Shoreline Food Bank in Southport six years ago. It is manned entirely by volunteers and hands out up to 50 free food parcels every day to those who need them, including up to five families with young children – working out at almost 13,000 food parcels a year.

The food parcels contain fresh savoury pies, bread, sweet pastries, vegetables of the sea- son, as well as tins of soup and beans, toiletries and biscuits. The food is donated from mem- bers of the public, bakeries, supermarkets, food stores and farms from the Southport area.

Julie Woods said: “I am utterly delighted to receive this award.

“It is wonderful to get it for me, but it is really an award for all of our volunteers, who turn up every weekday to pack and hand out fresh bakery, fresh veget- ables and fruit to those who need food in Southport.
