Rotary club want to appeal to youth vote

Southport Meols Rotary Club is combining its annual charter night with a youth-themed event at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Southport.

Youth Speaks, it is a four stage National Competi- tion, which aims to encourage the development of effective communication skills and the competition is open to teams of three students, in full time educa- tion, in two age groups.

Intermediate teams will compete for The Southport Meols Rotary Presidents Cup and the senior teams will compete for The Krishnan Cup, in memory of local Spinal Injuries consultant Mr Kookal Krishan.

Lisa Carlin from the club said: “The Rotary organisa- tion has more than 1.2 million members worldwide and the health, wellbeing and nurturing of our chil- dren is something that is at the core of everything they do.

“With this in mind, the Southport Meols Rotary have decided to combine this year’s annual Charter night with the fantastic Youth Speaks and Krishnan Cup Competition in order to create a fabulous evening filled with fascinating speakers, good food, excellent entertainment and of course, superb company!”

A Charter Night is to celebrate the date that a club was formed and this year marks the 34th year of the Southport Meols Rotary Club. Club president, Ged Whittle added: “We are a diverse group in terms of age, gender and profession and very forward think- ing.
