Richard Rierson: From Marine Corps to Successful Serial Entrepreneur

28th February 2023

Richard Rierson is an inspirational success story of a U.S. military veteran who found his way to success through sheer determination and hard work.

His incredible journey from being an Officer in the United States Marine Corps to a successful serial entrepreneur is a source of motivation and strength for any business person looking to make their mark in the world.

Rierson’s Career with the U.S. Marine Corps

Rierson began his impressive military career as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps, where he spent 10 years serving his country. He began training for Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 1991 after graduating from Wichita State University. He spent 6 months at Infantry School learning leadership, moral, mental, and physical qualities required for an Officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Richard then attended flight school in 1993 and has logged 10,500 flight hours as a Captain/Aircraft Commander in multiple types of aircraft in both military and commercial settings. He spent an additional ten years part-time with the Kansas Air National Guard & Air Force Reserve. In 2001, he was furloughed as a pilot and – ready for what the world had to offer – he decided to pursue a career in business.

Making the Transition from Military to Entrepreneur

After his military service, Rierson decided to make the move from soldier to businessman. He started his career in management at a variety of companies working his way up to Vice President.

He provided oversight and leadership to the entire field and directed both the area manager and special operation staff. This included 50 hotels and more than 250 employees.

His work caught the attention of the community and he received Wichita Business Journal’s annual 40-Under-40 award in 2007.

Growing an Online Business from Scratch

After finding success in his original business venture, Rierson set out to launch a new venture: fill a leadership gap with his own podcast. He was able to use the skills he had acquired in the military, such as resource management, problem solving, and communication strategies, to create a successful leadership coaching podcast.

According to OurFeatured.com, Richard applied the leadership skills he learned in the United States Marine Corps to his career. Before long, his “inspirational talks” received high praise and motivated him to start building an audience.

Richard Rierson harnessed the power of digital technology and launched the Dose of Leadership podcast.

The Dose of Leadership Podcast

The Dose of Leadership podcast was launched in 2012 and includes guests such as Steve Forbes, Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran, FedEx CEO Fred Smith, Pittsburgh Steeler Coach Bill Cowher, & Matthew McConaughey. The podcast includes 530 inspiring interviews with business leaders and has been named by Fortune, Business Insider, & INC Magazine as a “Top-10 Business Podcast”.

In the Dose of Leadership podcast, Richard will talk about the importance of self-awareness and reflective thinking. Self-awareness allows you to recognize strengths and weaknesses within yourself, while reflection helps turn those insights into tangible changes. Learning to be aware of your emotions and thoughts as they happen will help you gain insight into how they affect your decisions, relationships, and overall happiness.

This is an incredibly important skill for any leader to have!

Investing in Real Estate to Achieve Financial Freedom

One key step Richard took toward achieving his financial independence and becoming a successful serial entrepreneur was investing in real estate. Rierson invested in properties both near and far, including rental properties in Wichita and Chicago. He leveraged his network of contacts to find real estate deals that would maximize his return on investment.

In a recent interview, Richard Rierson welcomes others to share successful real estate strategies with him. He hopes to inspire more people to start investing in Real Estate.
