Queenscourt Hospice Christmas Tree Collection Service

Most people enjoy buying a natural tree neatly wrapped in netting but they loathe its disposal with the oozing sap and dropping needles. The thought of all that mess in the car or cutting and bagging up with the associated trip to the tip are not the part of Christmas that people enjoy.

Queenscourt are here to help with our brand new Christmas tree collection service where in return for a donation our volunteers will collect and recycle real Christmas trees from homes and businesses within post code areas of PR8 and PR9.

This service will take place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th January 2017 just after twelfth night and we are working with JustHelping a charity that provides general support and also the online system necessary to effectively run the collection.

How it all works, the first thing you need to do before 5th January 2017 is to register online and make a donation, we would appreciate a £10 donation for each tree being collected.  As part of your registration you let us know your address details and where your tree will be left outside your house so we know where to collect it from.

Once registered you just wait until the 14th or 15th January for the Queenscourt volunteers to arrive to remove your real Christmas tree and take it to be chipped and recycled.  So you have the peace of mind that your tree is being disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

Dobbies Garden Centre is sponsoring this event and we really appreciate this support, it’s great to have a household name helping a local community charity like Queenscourt, we also have great support from other businesses from the local community.

Paul Crabtree and Sons based in Tarleton will be chipping all the trees we collect, they are tree felling experts so we’re in safe hands.   Eric Formby of E A Formby ltd landscape gardeners will be donating a van and team of volunteers for the collection.  The rest of our volunteers are being provided by the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Community Risk Management and Prevention team.   We also have the support from Giles Gottig of D’vine Catering Southport who will be providing refreshments for all the volunteers.

This is growing into a great local service with lots of support from different areas of our community and we would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of the companies and the Fire service for their commitment to ensure this collection goes ahead.  This is the first time we have ever carried out a real Christmas tree collection and now all we need is the support of everyone who lives in PR8 and PR9.  So if you’re having a real Christmas tree this year please go online now and register your tree and make your donation. https://charityxmastreecollection.com

For our first collection we are just focussing on two postcodes PR8 and PR9 however we hope in future years to grow the number of volunteer’s and spread our collection into Formby and West Lancashire.

This is a great opportunity to support your local hospice. With your support we will raise vital funds for Queenscourt which will help us to continue to provide the full range of services we offer to patients with live limiting illnesses completely free of charge.
