Popular Ice Cream Parlour is ‘cone but not forgotten’

20th October 2020

A family favourite ice cream parlour is cone but not forgotten after scooping up shop and leaving Lord Street for good.

Rich’s Ice Cream parlour, a firm favourite of families, tourists, Sandgrounders and even nearby workers in need of a cool down, has finally closed its doors.

The family run parlour and cafe had been quietly listed for sale or lease for at least five years with the owner John Doyle looking to retire, OTS News understands.

Now after decades of serving Southport, the former parlour is now a shell of a shop front, adding to the ever growing list of empty units in the town centre.

Widely considered to have ‘the best ice cream ever’ and whose chocolate ice cream was branded ‘the best in the world’ by one happy customer; this loss on the high street will be felt be locals and tourists alike.

Loved by youngsters, families and adults; this icon of our visitor economy will be sorely missed.

Sadly, this closure comes at a time when Southport is in desperate need of a boost.

High streets across the country are suffering due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and with Southport now in Tier 3 restrictions, visitors are discouraged from visiting the town.
