Police remove Britain First activists from filming inside Scarisbrick Hotel

14th April 2021

A pair of “North West activists” from Britain First were escorted from the Scarisbrick Hotel last week after attempting to film guests inside the building.

Having been inside the hotel for 14 seconds, one man asks a group sat on the reception stairs “What country are yous all from?”

One comment on the original video menacingly called for residents to “surround” the hotel.

Several phony reviews claiming the hotel is housing ‘illegal migrants’ posted in August 2020 remain on the hotel’s TripAdvisor page.

Having been removed from the premises by police, the “activists” continue to film around the exterior, using friendly greetings to introduce themselves before interrogating people over their nationality.

Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that officers attended a Southport hotel last week following a small protest.

“At around 4.40pm on Wednesday 7 April, officers were called to the Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord Street to reports of members of Britain First entering the location.

“Members of the organisation were spoken with and left the building a short time later.

“No arrests were made or criminal offences identified.

“Officers were present to prevent any breach of the peace and to support the hotel staff and residents.”

Temporary housing of residents within the hotel is managed by Serco.

Jenni Halliday, Serco Contract Director for Asylum Accommodation, said: “A small group of far right extremists attempted unsuccessfully to enter the hotel. They were met by the police who immediately escorted them out of the building.

“Our priority at all times is for the safety and well being of the people in our care and I am proud of the way that our team reacted; as a result there was no damage and no one was affected.”

Representatives for Southport Against Racism said: “We are appalled that a racist group can scaremonger the elderly and women in our town with such lies. As a group many of us have met the Refugees; we have been impressed at how polite and respectable they are.

“The female reporter should be ashamed of herself posing as a friendly face to get a narrative from vulnerable people to reinforce their racist propaganda. Their headlines evidence their hatred for ALL refugees that have sadly faced trauma and risked their lives to get to a safe place. To suggest that they ‘crawl’ and not walk should speak volumes.

“To say that ‘they’ are ‘illegal’ is another lie. We do not feel any human is illegal but the fact that ‘they’ are being ‘assessed’ deems them legally entitled to be here. Many Refugees go on to get leave to remain after an unbearable gruelling process.

“Our experience of the living standards of Refugees has been that they live in poverty and experience poor health and hunger. Many families are not able to pay for the basics such as clothing, powdered milk, and nappies. It is hardly surprising that we read so many articles where Refugees have taken their own lives.”
