Pleasureland staff work around the clock ahead of a bumper summer

A HUGE scheme of safety checks, refurbishments and decorating are underway at Pleasureland Southport in order to get the park up and running in time for Easter 2017.

Norman Wallis and a team of engineers, electricians, builders and painters are working almost round the clock to get the Promenade based fairground open before hundreds of thousands of visitors flock there for the summer months.

As well as stringent safety checks on existing rides, Norman has bought a whole host of new attractions including a brand new set of dodgem cars – and there are plenty more surprises to come in the next few months.

“The work never stops,” Norman says. “Since we closed for the winter period we have all been working so hard to get Pleasureland ready for the coming season.

“This is not an easy task but it’s all worth it to see families flock here with huge smiles on their faces. The work we do here reflects just how passionate we are about making sure Southport becomes the best seaside resort in the country.

“We are in our tenth year now and each year we have something bigger and better than ever before. 2017 is set to be a bumper year for Pleasureland and Southport.

“This is the number one reason for people to come to Southport. Lord Street is beautiful but it has rivals in the form of the Trafford Centre and Liverpool One. Pleasureland though is the only attraction of its kind in the whole of the North West.

“We never stop here and nobody quite realizes how much work needs to be done during the winter. Come rain, hail sleet or snow we are here working every day.

“Over the last few months we have been dismantling rides and carrying out safety checks. We have changed wheels, bearing and done everything we need to do to make them safe and enjoyable.

“We have also sold and bought a number of rides – we are constantly making improvements to the site.

“The in house team comprises of painters, airbrush artists, engineers, builders, joiners, electricians but we also work closely with many local contractors doing lots of different jobs to make Southport better.

“This summer we want families to enjoy the whole experience of coming to Pleasureland and making a full family day out.

“Its not just about any one particular ride – it’s the experience of coming here and we want people to leave with memories that will last a lifetime.

Norman added that he’s very keen that people appreciate the town of Southport, all it has to offer and it’s fantastic potential.

He said: “What we need as a town is for the people to think what they can do to make it even greater and act.

“It’s not all down to the BID or the Council, we also have to help ourselves!”

“Quality service and value for money is what we are  about at Southport Pleasureland! And you haven’t seen nothing yet – there’s more to come!”
