Plea to ban booze on Northern trains

16th December 2018

worried commuters travelling between Southport and Manchester say they want to ban booze on Northern Trains after boxed up Christmas revellers have caused trouble.

One man, who travels to Manchester for his job as an accountant, wrote to OTS to say Northern should ban booze like Merseyrail do.

He said “Why don’t Northern Rail show the same consider ation to their passengers as Merseyrail do, by banning alcohol on board?

“I have travelled on a Northern Rail train during rush hour, with passengers drinking and getting more drunk and aggressive as time went on .

It is a shame that alcohol should have to be banned on board but while there are people like this around, of which I’m sure there will be more on late trains at the festive season, it should be banned.

Not drinking for the hour or two that they’re on the train really isn’t a big ask.
