Pensioner decides to paint Marine lake railings (Southport).

A kind hearted pensioner armed with nothing but a paint brush and some overalls has decided to take it on himself to paint the rusty marine lake railings.

The unidentified man was spotted with a paint brush coasting the rusted railings opposite morrisons this morning after he grew fed up of nobody doing anything about it.

He remarked to passers by that he was annoyed at having to walk past the lake each day and see the dilapidated state of the railings, having lived in the town as a young boy and seen it in all its glory.

He hopes to bring back the town’s heyday with nothing more than a small pot of Dulux and a 99p brush from Wilkos.

Recently Liberal Democrat councillors Sue McGuire and Tony Dawson are asking Sefton Council to apply to the Coastal Communities Fund for money to renovate the Marine Lake Railings.

The Fund has recently received a boost of £90 million which can be used for project to regenerate seaside towns.

Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group Cambridge Ward Councillor Sue McGuire explained:

“Everyone agrees that the railings on the Marine Lake are in an appalling state and really let Southport down. So, I’ve asked Margaret Carney if we can apply for a grant from this fund to renovate them.

We have to move quickly as there will be many other demands on this fund.”

Anyone a dab hand at fixing crumbling walls though?
