Past Birkdale High teacher charged with historic sex offences

A past Birkdale High head teacher has been charged with historic sex offences against a young boy.

Marcus Barker(54) left Birkdale in 2007 to pursuit a high profile job at an academy in London, has this week been charged with five counts of indecent assault against a young boy under the age of 16.

The charges relate to historical allegations from over thirty years ago.

The offences are alleged to have happened over the course of three years in the 1980s and are believed to pre-date him becoming a teacher.

Police have charged him with five counts of indecent assault.

Barker pleaded not guilty to the charges at Staffordshire Magistrates court and will now appear before Stoke-On-Trent crown court on May 26 2017.
