Damien Moore MP has announced that his Children’s A&E petition, launched in September, was signed by “well over a thousand” of his Southport constituents within the first week.

The petition calls for the return of the Children’s A&E service at Southport Hospital, which was lost in 2003 under a Liberal Democrat MP and at the direction of the then-Labour Government.

The Conservative MP for Southport has confirmed that Ministers and NHS England are looking into the proposal and are pushing for a review of the case for a new Children’s A&E within Southport, following almost two decades without the crucial service.

Mr. Moore has also recently confirmed that £5 million of Government funding has been secured for a new Community Diagnostic Centre at Southport Hospital, which will drastically reduce waiting times for appointments and diagnostic testing ability, including MRI scans, CT scans, ultrasounds, endoscopies, and blood tests.

The local Conservative MP is also pushing for the return of Clatterbridge cancer services to Southport Hospital, which he describes as “essential” for cancer patients in the town. He has described his desire for a “new era” of quality healthcare within Southport.

Damien Moore, Member of Parliament for Southport, said: “I am delighted that in the first week of launching my petition to bring a Children’s A&E service back to Southport Hospital, it was signed by well over a thousand Southport residents.

“I have previously met with the Minister and discussed my plans for bringing this A&E back to Southport, which have been well received at the Department for Health and Social Care.

“If you share my aim of returning this key service to our town, then I urge you to back the campaign, sign the petition, and share this petition with friends, family, and neighbours.

“The strength of support I have received from Southport residents has been fantastic. Together we will fight for quality healthcare for Southport’s families, and ensure that our town’s children get the care that they need and deserve.”
