Mental Health hospital gets one step closer

28th October 2017

Plans for a new mental health hospital for Southport have been showcased at community roadshows.
Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust and its construction partners held two public events earlier this month prior to construction starting on the project. Both events were held at Mersey Care’s new Life Rooms on Scarisbrick Avenue.

Representatives from Mersey Care including focus team leader Tracey McAdam, contractors Farrans Heron and architects Gilling Dod were on hand to field questions from service users at the roadshows.

Planning approval was granted recently by Sefton Council for redevelopment of land the Trust owns on the former Southport General Infirmary site, off Scarisbrick New Road.

The 44-bed new hospital will replace the existing mental health unit on the site, the Boothroyd Unit, as well as the Hesketh Centre located near Hesketh Park. Construction work is expected to start this autumn.
