Man and woman racially abused in Southport

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to following an incident in Southport in which a shop owner and his wife were racially abused.

The incident is reported to have happened on 19th April 2018 at around 10.30pm when the man and woman suffered verbal abuse by another man as he walked past their shop in London Street, Southport Town Centre.

The victims were not physically injured during the attack, however were left very upset by the comments made.

Officers would like to speak to the man pictured as they believe he may be able to help them with their enquiries.

Inspector Susan Stribling said: “This was a completely unprovoked verbal attack on a man and woman, who were simply going about their daily business.

“I’m sure the public would agree that this type of behaviour is clearly unacceptable and I would appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to get in touch.

“Racism and any other type of hate crime will not be tolerated in Merseyside and we will do everything we can to bring the offender to justice.”

Anyone who recognises this man or anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call us on 101 or contact us via social media @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK.
