Man in a critical condition following a brawl in Southport town centre

A Southport man is fighting for his life after suffering serious head injuries in a brawl during the early hours of this morning (Sunday 30 July 2017).

The victim is believed to have suffered a bleed on the brain after becoming involved In a confrontation with a group of men on Market Street following a dispute outside a nearby town centre bar.

The male, in his twenties, remains hospital in a critical condition.

One man has been arrested in connection with the assault and remains in custody for questioning.

Police closed off part of Market street in the early hours of this morning but soon reopened it to traffic.
