Major RTC on Norwood Road

Police and paramedics have been called to the scene of a serious crash in Southport involving a motorbiker and two other vehicles.

Emergency crews have been called to the junction of Sussex Road and Norwood Road this evening following a collision involving a motorbike, builder’s van and a Ford hatchback.

Paramedics remain on scene attending to at one patient in the back of an ambulance for minor injuries.

OTS understands that injuries sustained by the motorcyclist are not serious.

Police have closed off the junction and an investigation is underway.

The closure is causing significant congestion on Butts Lane, Hart Street, Norwood Road and Sussex Road.

Merseyside Police says: “We are appealing for witnesses after an RTC in Southport this evening, Friday 26 March.

“At around 4.25pm, emergency services were called to Norwood Road to reports of a collision between a Suzuki motorbike carrying two male passengers and three other vehicles: a Ford Transit van, a Ford Fiesta, and a BMW Estate.

“Each of the motorbike passengers were taken to hospital, where the rider is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and the passenger is being treated for minor injuries.

“No-one else was injured in the collision.

“The Force’s Roads Policing Unit has now opened a full investigation.”

Roads Policing Sergeant Ged Farley said: “We’re asking anyone who was travelling along Norwood Road, Sussex Road or the surrounding area around the time of this incident to get in touch. It might be that you have CCTV, dash cam or other footage which may have captured the collision and can assist us with our enquiries.”
