Whereas there are undoubtedly many challenges ahead for services at Southport Hospital, I agree with Damien that closure is not on the table.
The government agreeing to write off historic debts during Covid has helped financially but recruitment in some service areas remains problematic.
We can all agree that little is gained by exaggeration, but Damien does not help his case by lashing out indiscriminately at members and councillors from other parties who generally take a balanced, measured and informed view of these issues.
That is just the same kind of irresponsible exaggeration he claims to deplore in others and appears less than statesmanlike.
