Letter to the editor | Homeless migrants set up camp Princes Park, Southport

Dear editor

I was with my young daughter and dog earlier tonight (Sunday 17 June) on Princes Park and I was shocked to the core to find tents all along the treeline. I hadn’t noticed them at first but it was only after my daughter ran towards one because of its bright colours that I realised they were illegal campers.

I had to run to stop my daughter from climbing in and we must have disturbed the gentleman inside because he came out and started swearing at us in a thick Eastern European accent.

He was very angry and told us to go away. I argued with him that he should not be there but he said it was his right as an EU citizen and it was perfectly legal.

Other empty tents are stuffed with blankets and a few yards from the site is a pile of used tissue paper and human excrement.

I am shocked and appalled by this and have reported site to Sefton Council.
