Letter: We’re all to blame for litter, not just tourists

A letter to the editor following our story on plastic pollution in Marine Lake says that everyone is to blame for making Southport a mess, not just tourists.

It says “Why is it always the ‘younger generation or tourists’ who take the blame for fouling up the common areas of our lovely town.

“If you were to stand by any of the Hesketh Park gates, you will see older generation people pulling up in their smart cars, get their dog or dogs out of the nice car, put the dogs on a lead and take them into the park.

“You will then see that many of the dogs are unleashed so they may roam around the park to use it as a toilet.

“Surely we should be directing her ire not just at young offenders but at everyone who contributes to creating litter, of any kind, in our common areas.”
