Labour will win Southport, Jeremy Corbyn tells crowd on latest visit

Labour North West are pleased to announce that they will be hosting their annual Regional Conference in Southport Theatre and Convention Centre in 2019.

The conference is an opportunity for top politicians and party members to spend the weekend debating and discussing the big issues of the day. Southport Theatre and Convention Centre (STCC) is a great venue that promises to provide the perfect setting for political debate at this turbulent time in politics.

As the only non-Labour seat remaining in Merseyside, Southport is a key target for Labour to win in the next general election. Labour North West are proud to bring the conference to the constituency and show Labour’s dedication to the area.

The annual event gets bigger and better every year and Labour North West expect over 600 visitors to attend the event which runs over a weekend in November.

Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Southport, Liz Savage, said:

“I am proud to be able to welcome Labour North West regional conference to Southport this year. I have no doubt that delegates will have a fantastic time here. It is a great opportunity for national Labour politicians to travel to our town and hear directly what change people want to see in this country. This is also great news for local businesses as hundreds of members will be spending their money in the town over the weekend.”

Cllr Ian Maher, Labour Leader of Sefton Council, added:

“The fact the Labour North West Regional Conference is being held in Southport this year is great news for the town and the whole borough. The Southport Theatre & Convention Centre offers superb modern facilities within a stunning setting overlooking the Marine Lake and is the ideal choice for an event of this calibre.

“Southport itself has a wealth of attractions for the conference delegates should they have any free time including some fabulous bars and restaurants and lots of independent retailers. Hosting an event like this also brings immense economic benefit to the area and with around 600 delegates expected to attend, it will generate around half a million pounds for the local economy. We are very proud to be chosen to host such a conference and look forward to welcoming everyone in a few months’ time.”

Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, said:

“It is fantastic news that Labour North West is bringing its conference to Southport. With hundreds of delegates from across the region coming to the town, this is a huge vote of confidence in our city region. I am sure that Southport will give Labour a warm welcome and the conference will be a huge success.”
