King George V College (KGV) has recruited a new vice principal as the college continues its concerted push to return the college to “outstanding” Ofsted grade.

Anne-Marie Francis joined the College on June 16, from Burnley College – currently rated as an outstanding institution – as Vice Principal of Performance Management

Her role will focus on the quality and standard of teaching at King George V College, an area that Ms Francis is very familiar with.

“I’ve worked in college’s that require improvement before,” she said.

“I’m coming from an institution that’s graded as outstanding, so I have a really clear picture of what Principal Adele Wills and her team are aspiring to.

“Staff are any college’s greatest resource, I’m interested in putting the tools in their hands, so we can all work to get the best outcomes.

“King George V College’s journey back to outstanding is very achievable. Everyone wants to succeed.”

King George V College was awarded a grade 4 in an Ofsted inspection late last year.

Since then Principal Adele Wills and her senior leadership team have pulled out all the stops, and are working to return the college to its rightful place as one of the best colleges in the region.

The college has received three monitoring visits since the inspection, and Ofsted continues to identify significant improvements.

Adele Wills said: “Anne-Marie’s appointment comes at a time when the college is moving steadily towards its goal of becoming an outstanding college.

“Her work at Burnley demonstrates that she lives and breathes performance, and I’m confident she will use these skills to help us on our journey back to outstanding.”

Adele Wills said two new governors have also been appointed to the college’s board. Kathy Passant and Stephen Sheedy are both retired former principals.
