Investigation launched after Birkdale bike thefts

22nd June 2020

POLICE are investigating a number of thefts of bikes from sheds and garages in the Birkdale area that took place overnight this weekend, Saturday to Sunday. CCTV enquiries have been made and letters to try and identify any witnesses have been delivered to neighbours in the relevant roads. Investigations continue.

In most cases, the offender(s) have cut the hasp off the shed, where the padlock has been locked through, as this is weaker than the padlock to cut. For this reason, we recommend that bikes are also locked themselves, inside shed/garages with a high quality D lock. This kind of steel lock is much harder to cut through than cable locks. Ideally, bikes should be locked to a secure bar or other solid object too. Where bikes are of high value, consider adding a shed alarm too.

On one positive note, the orange Carrera bike pictured was recovered by officers last Friday and so far we have been unable to identify the owner. If you think this bike could be yours, and have proof of ownership, please email B.Community.hub.2@merseyside.pnn.police.uk and we will make contact with you.
