Important Christmas refuse collection dates announced

27th November 2017

Refuse and recycling collections in Southport will continue over Christmas and the New Year for residents across the borough.

Collection crews will be observing the usual Boxing Day bank holiday on Tuesday, December 26 meaning all scheduled collections from December 26-29 will take place a day later. This includes the ‘normal’ Friday collection on December 29 moving to Saturday, December 30.

Residents are asked to put their refuse and recycling out a day later than normal for this week only meaning collections will now take place between December 27-30. Normal service will resume from Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Separate arrangements for trade waste collections over Christmas and the New Year will be made and businesses affected will be contacted directly by Sefton Council.

Similar to other years, the green wheelie bin collection for garden waste will be suspended from the end of November 2017 until March 2018 and to check any of your collection dates please visit the Sefton Council website – sefton.gov.uk/bins.

Cllr John Fairclough, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member Locality Services, said:

“Please take note of the minor change to refuse and recycling collections over Christmas and the New Year.

“The only difference this year is that household collections will be a day later during the week in between Christmas and New Year. Residents can also download calendars of their updated collections into 2018 by simply logging on to sefton.gov.uk/bins.

“Please remember that during and after the Christmas period we all tend to generate extra waste yet so much of this can be recycled. As ever please think about recycling more rather than just putting it in the grey bin and make your Christmas an even greener one.”
