Hundreds expected to need ‘warm spaces’ as temperatures drop below 9°

30th November 2022

Buildings across Southport that are acting as ‘warm spaces’ for people struggling or unable to heat their own homes are expected to open this week.

Temperatures are forecast to stay below double figures all week, with icy wind and rain dropping the mercury below 10 degrees C.

Nine buildings and community centres in Southport will be repurposed into specialist ‘warm hubs’ to help residents who cant heat their own homes.

All ‘Warm Spaces’ will be heated, safe and friendly places where you can comfortably spend time reading, studying or chatting with others. Some venues, our ‘Enhanced’ Warm Spaces, will also offer hot drinks and food, activities, and other services such as free Wi-Fi.

It means thousands of residents who can’t afford to turn on their heating because of skyrocketing energy prices will be seeking out warm spaces.

Basic Hubs will provide access to a warm space and at some venues hot drinks and snacks.

The Atkinson, Holy Trinity Church and Leyland Road church are among those venues in Southport who will open their doors.
