A Southport GP is spearheading a local health campaign with the message: ‘start moving towards a healthier you.’

Norwood Surgery Doctor Simon Tobin believes that the recently established Hesketh Parkrun has already brought recordable improvements in the health of the participants and is calling for more people to come to the start line.

He said: “Parkrun has created a real buzz. We work really hard to make everyone feel welcome and to encourage everybody, whether they’re running or walking.

“The feedback from my patients is that they really appreciate what the event does for them.

Quite a few people are hesitant about getting involved for the first time, so it helps to have a welcoming atmosphere.”

Dr Tobin, said he has seen a variety of people improve their health through Parkrun, including people with diabetes, heart disease, depression and those overweight.
