Freshfields is shoppers charity of the year

Freshfields Animal Sanctuary has been given a big fundraising boost by being chosen as a Southport supermarket’s ‘Charity of the Year’.

The animal sanctuary has been caring for abused, abandoned and unwanted animals across Merseyside and North Wales for more than 30 years and will now benefit from money to be raised by customers of Sainsbury’s in Lord Street.

Their two rescue centres – one at East Lodge Farm on East Lane in Ince Blundell – rehabilitate and re-home more than 2,000 dogs, cats, horses, small animals, unwanted farm animals and wild birds a year.

Debbie Hughes from the charity said: “We had a ball at the in-store launch events and had the warmest welcome from the staff and customers who were keen to come over and say hello and find out more about our rescue and re-homing work in Merseyside and beyond.
