Free blues concerts for children are being held at the Atkinson to promote interest in music.

Martin Maynard who runs Sounds Good recording studio in Southport is organising the event.

Martin, who has over 40 years experience in the music industry, said: “One of the things that really bothers me is the expense of taking kids to concerts.

“It’s about trying to get young people exposed to good music, other than pop songs.”

U16s accompanied by an adult can go free to the concerts, the first of which is being held this weekend.

Rag Mama Rag – a country blues band – will take to the stage at the Atkinson on March 23.

Their repertoire is 20s and 30s Blues based, but encompasses Mississippi Blues, East Coast Ragtime sounds, early White Country tunes, Original Compositions, and many other regional styles of the period.
