Formby bypass closed by emergency services after serious crash

A stretch of the Formby bypass was closed this morning after a serious crash involving a number of cars.

Witnesses said as many as four vehicles were involved in the smash which happened on the southbound carriageway close to Ince Woods.

Traffic was being diverted down the new causeway but still urged motorists to avoid the area due to congestion.

Five police cars remain at the crash scene with road collision investigators overseeing the initial stages of the investigation.
