Fire crews were called to Southport Station after a fire broke out close to the main platforms.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were called at 5.16pm to reports of an electrical fire. Crews arrived on scene 3 minutes later.

MFRS said the fire was already extinguished by the time crews arrived, but water was used to cool the rail lines after electrics had been isolated.

Footage posted online appears to show flames spreading across the platform. OTS understands no-one was harmed in the incident.

Merseyrail posted to Twitter “Due to a possible tack [sic] fault in the Southport area, services on the Southport line are currently meeting with delay. More info to follow.”
