Exhausted NHS nurse forced to cancel valentines plans after train power fail

Commuter misery has struck Valentines night partygoers in Southport after a huge electrical fault.

Many took to twitter to vent their anger at Northern Rail after a severe electrical supply fault in Wigan brought the majority of the rail network to a halt.

Trains to and from Southport and Manchester, Leeds and Wigan have been canceled and rail bosses say there is no guarantee the line will be repaired in time for this evening.

One passenger Lucy Goodfellow was due to meet her boyfriend in Manchester this evening.

She wrote to OTS: “I made it as far as the platform at Meols Cop and the board just changed to a sea of cancellations.

“I am heartbroken. I’m a nurse and long shifts mean I haven’t seen my man for weeks. This was supposed to be our special valentines night.”

A Northern rail spokesperson said “Due to a failure of the electricity supply at Wigan North Western the line is blocked.

“Services through this station will be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.”
