Every little helps – Police to tackle boy racers!

13th March 2020

Following a number of complaints of cars and motorcycles being driven in an anti-social manner in cars parks around Tesco Town Lane and the Meols Cop estate, Southport Local Policing Team officers officers will be continuing to patrol these areas in the coming evenings.

Police Officers and Police Community Support & Traffic Officers (PCSO’s) can issue warnings and/or seize vehicles used, or that are believed to have been used, in an anti-social manner, under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002. A Section 59 warning applies to both the driver AND the vehicle being used. It applies for 12 months and if the driver or vehicle are involved in a further similar incident, the vehicle being driven can be seized and may be destroyed.

If it is not practical to give a warning, officers can go directly to seizure of the vehicle. Vehicles may also be seized from the keepers property without a warrant.

If you see vehicles being driven in this manner, report them via 101 or the Merseyside Police Contact Centre page on Facebook.

In an emergency, always dial 999.
