14th May 2020

Walkers along Southport beach have raised issues over potential human looking bones which have washed up on the beach Huge bones resembling that of a thigh, along with hip joints and smaller bones, have washed up near the pier.

Dog walkers made the macabre discovery this afternoon and immediately took to Facebook to share the images to see if anyone could identify them.

The post read “does anybody know what this could be? It looks so much like a human bone. I think it could be a leg.’”

However a number of marine science enthusiasts have since identified the bones as likely belonging to a small type of whale common in the Atlantic and Irish Sea.
