It takes seconds for a thief to steal an unlocked bike and minutes to make it disappear. A number of bike thefts have been reported over the last month and several of these bike have been left outside shops, unlocked and unattended. Thieves are opportunists and this just the kind of opportunity they look for.

Please help reduce the risk of your bike or your child’s bike being stolen by ALWAYS locking you bike EVERY TIME you leave it unattended and even when you put it away in your shed or garage. Burglars may use your bike to make their getaway! So make it more difficult for them.

When you buy a lock, buy one that costs 10% or more of the value of your bike. Make it the most solid and sturdy lock you can. We recommend steel ‘D’ locks or heavy chains with sturdy locks. Cheap cable locks can be and have been cut through with bolt cutters. So don’t expect a cheap lock to protect your bike.

Always ensure you know the frame number of your bike, in case of theft and register your bike on a property database such as https://crowd.in/YZDDfD or https://crowd.in/SvbuPz

We are currently trying to obtain funding to run some more bike tagging events in the Southport area. Watch out for these when funding is obtained.
