Council’s road safety team to assess danger spots in Southport

22nd November 2023

Sefton Council say they will look into reports of dangerous roads around Southport.

As part of Road Safety week the council received numerous reports of unsafe roads around schools as it asked people to obey 20mph speed limits.

Furious residents said “So much more needs to be done than talk! Action is required to catch speeders and more harsh punishment.

“I am a driver myself and fed up of cars flashing me and tailing me when I do the speed limit and they want to speed away! I also had my poor cat run over by a speeding van yesterday, who died this morning as a result of his injuries. Talking is not doing anything, action needs to start now!”

Another resident commented “It’s not really speed that’s the issue round schools it’s impatience and dangerous parking mainly by parents all wanting to get as close as possible.”

A Council post read “Road safety is incredibly important to us and we are working with the police, schools and families to see what more can be done.

“We will pass on roads of concern to the road safety team to see if they can do some extra monitoring in these areas.”
