Could you support someone living with dementia in Southport

5th October 2017

Alzheimer’s Society will be holding a drop-in volunteer recruitment event at Lady ‘B’ Tea Shop, 633 Lord Street, Southport on Tuesday 17th October, 11am-2pm to encourage more Sefton residents to volunteer with the charity.

There are over 4,000 people living with dementia in the Sefton area, and the Society are looking for volunteers to support at the various activity groups such as the flagship Singing for the Brain, memory cafes and through the bespoke Befriending scheme.

The Befriending scheme matches people living with dementia with volunteers based on shared interests and hobbies from music to chess to golf and everything in between.

Volunteers with Alzheimer’s Society can commit as little or as much time as they wish each week, and are supported by local staff and training provided where necessary.

Elaine Killey, Befriending Manager in Southport said:

“We’re always looking for new volunteers to come on board with us here in Sefton in order to give as much support as we can to local people living with dementia and their carers.

“Our current volunteers can vouch for the support, advice and guidance we provide to them as we recognise the important role they can play in the lives of many people.

“The information event we’re holding is an informal drop-in event for members of the public to come and find out about the different types of volunteering you can get involved in.

“Both staff and some of our current volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have in order to help you decide if volunteering with us is for you or not.”

Alzheimer’s Society will be based at Lady ‘B’ Tea Shop, 633 Lord Street, Southport, PR9 0AW from 11am to 2pm. For more information phone 01704 539 967 or email southport@alzheimers.org.uk
