Planning chiefs have stood by a decision to retrospectively decline a Churchtown restaurant and bar’s outdoor awning.
Suzie’s on Manor Road say they have vowed to fight the decision and are consulting with lawyers after the council said they must take down their iconic outdoor awning, which was installed without planning permissions.
The council’s latest decision indicates the restaurant may never have got permission to create the cover in the first place and it may have always been denied.
A spokesperson for Suzie’s said “ Sadly, the news is true.
“The planning application to retain our awning has been refused, with all but one councillor voting against it.
“Naturally, we’re incredibly disappointed by the decision, especially considering what Suzie’s has brought to Churchtown and the support we’ve received from so many of you.
“However, this isn’t the end.
“We remain positive and are already exploring the options available to us alongside our planning and legal team.
“We will continue doing everything we can to achieve a positive outcome.
“In the meantime, it’s business as usual.
Our doors are open, the food and drinks are flowing, and we can’t wait to welcome you throughout the summer.”
It’s the second blow in 24 hours for Churchtown village after the council also confirmed plans to shut down the beloved botanic gardens aviary.
