Chimney fire leads to mile long tailbacks to Southport

19th September 2020

A chimney fire in Ince Blundell has inadvertently led to mile long traffic tailbacks as thousands of people head to Southport this afternoon.

A massive smoke stack at a private property near to Ince Blundell woods is currently on fire and crews from Merseyside Fire and Rescue are having to use large scale equipment to extinguish it.

This has led to major tailbacks with cars being forced to slow and move across the carriageway while the incident is ongoing.

Traffic is being backed up as far as the Brooms Cross Road roundabout.
