BTP is looking to speak to these men in connection with racial abuse on a train to Wigan – which a train guard called “the worst she’d heard in a long time”.

At 12.52pm on Friday 15 December, two men boarded a train from Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan.

They were carrying bottles of beer and appeared to be drunk. Shortly into the journey, they started racially abusing a male passenger.

The sustained and threatening abuse caused a female train guard to intervene. She told officers later that hadn’t heard such abusive language in long time.

The men then became suspicious that the police had been called and got off the train at Prescot, before getting a taxi to St Helens.

Hate crime will not ever be tolerated. Officers would like to speak to the men in these images, as they believe they may have information which could help the investigation.

Do you know who they are? If you have any information, please contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 with reference 284 of 15 December.
