Care Home’s residents fundraise for the Southport Lifeboat

21st May 2019

On Saturday the 18th of May, residents of a Southport Athena Healthcare Group care home, Hesketh Park Lodge, presented a cheque to their chosen charity – the Southport Lifeboat.

The nursing home held an event on behalf of the residents, where they presented a cheque for almost £600 to the Southport Lifeboat; a charity that’s very dear to their hearts.

Run by the Southport Offshore Rescue Trust, Southport Lifeboat provides a land & sea search and rescue service around the Sefton coastline. The lifeboat crew operate in a large area of water up to 25 miles offshore, between the rivers Mersey and Ribble, including Southport Marine Lake.

Since its inception in 1988, Southport Lifeboat have assisted in the safe return of over 250 people. The service is totally independent and receives no funding from the RNLI; this means that the £60,000+ per year required to keep this vital service operational comes via the fund-raising efforts of those like the residents of Hesketh Park Lodge.

The event provided an afternoon of entertainment, with the residents of Hesketh Park Lodge giving a heartfelt speech before presenting the donation to representatives of the Southport Offshore Rescue Trust.

All at Hesketh Park Lodge and the Athena Healthcare Group would like to thank the crewmembers and volunteers of the Southport Lifeboat service for their hard work and dedication.
